Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
Last night, I decided that instead of tattooing myself with words from Langston Hughes poem, “Dreams”, I thought I would use his words as inspiration in creating a blog. Hence, I came up with the name Hold Fast To Reading. I think it is important to take value in the reading I do every day and start to share my love of reading with friends and family. Also, reading is an important commodity in today’s world. Not only books. We read everything…books, magazines, websites, tweets, messages, faces and body language. It is an ongoing dialogue. That is why I chose to Hold Fast To Reading instead of Hold Fast To Books. Reading is more than books.
Why a blog?
For some people they will think that I am late to the game and that blogs are dead. They may be outdated to some people but I think that this is the best venue for me. Sometimes I want to write more than 140 characters. I may want to write a review or share an article or photo. Or maybe I just want to sigh. This is more for me than anyone else. If you take pleasure in reading my blog, that makes me happy. If not, I know I’ll just be a moment on your screen and you will click elsewhere.
After completing my latest degree, I thought about how I am going to continue to be inspired to write. I am happy that my thesis is done and I no longer have to read and write for the paper but it is important for me to be engaged in what I am doing. This blog will help me share my latest knowledge. In fact, it is my newest classroom as a student. I need to figure out how to add widgets, change the font, and display my reading choices.
Do I Have a Focus?
I do have a fondness of Young Adult and Children’s Literature. However, I still read Adult Bestsellers, Mysteries, Graphic Novels and anything of interest. So every once in a while, there will be an adult text that will pop up in my posts. But for the most part, I will be using this blog to focus on the reading i do as a teacher-librarian.
I look forward to this journey and hope you stop to read, comment and stay awhile.
So with that, I say, “Hold Fast To Reading!”
