The Silver Birch Award has been around for twenty years! That means for the past twenty years, Ontario students in grades 4, 5 and 6 have been voting for nominated favourite children’s books for longer than I have been a teacher.
I have to say I haven’t read Silver Birch for twenty years; however, I can say that I was introduced to Silver Birch when I was doing my Bachelor of Education seventeen years ago. My mother gave me all the books in the fiction and non-fiction categories. The book that kept me up all night reading Kenneth Oppel’s Silverwing. It was the book that won the Silverbirch Award in 1998.
Everyone now has an opportunity to vote for their favourite Silver Birch fiction and non-fiction books until January 31st. Click here go to the link to vote for your favourite today!
